Google, the African Union (AU), and YouTube are joining forces to launch #DiscoverMyAfrica, a month-long celebration of African creativity, innovation, and heritage. Throughout Africa Month, creators are invited to share their unique perspectives on the continent through YouTube Shorts, while special events and resources will highlight Africa’s vibrant creative industries.
The #DiscoverMyAfrica Shorts Challenge encourages creators across the continent to showcase Africa’s rich diversity – from its music and art to its food, fashion, and breathtaking landscapes.
“#DiscoverMyAfrica empowers African youth to share their stories and rich cultural heritage globally,” said Chido Mpemba, African Union Chairperson’s Youth Envoy. “Partnering with Google fosters creative expression and dialogue on content responsibility, digital preservation, and AI’s impact on Africa’s creative industries. This aligns with our vision for a digitally-enabled Africa harnessing cultural wealth for economic growth and social progress.”
YouTube Music is amplifying the celebration with two dedicated playlists, “Africa’s Next Wave” and “Africa Superstars”. These playlists will spotlight both emerging and established African artists, demonstrating the continent’s position as a global musical powerhouse.
Additionally, YouTube Music Nights in Nigeria and South Africa will bring together leading Afrobeats and Amapiano artists for unforgettable live performances.
