Google announced yesterday that it has hit its half way mark in its bid to train 1 million Africans on digital skills.
The initiative was launched six months ago and the objective is provide Africans with the skills to take advantage of the internet and the opportunities it offers. Over 500,000 Africans have received training that will enable them build businesses, create jobs and boost economic growth across the continent.
Google also announced launched an online portal – Digital Skills Africa Online Portal – for that who are unable to attend face-to-face sessions and want to acquire digital skills in their own time, from their own phone or computer.
The portal which contains 89 online lessons, has wide-range of subjects which includes digital web analytics, social media management and mobile marketing. The lessons are currently available in English and French and in the near future they will be made available in Portuguese. The training is available to anyone and people who attend the full program will receive a certificate of proficiency online.
