    Globacom regains position as the 2nd largest mobile operator in Nigeria

    According to June 2014 subscriber statistics released by NCC last week, figures show that Globacom has overtaken Airtel to be the 2nd largest mobile operator in Nigeria in terms of subscriber numbers.

    MTN still maintains the top position though its subscriber numbers dropped from 57 million in March 2014 to 56 million in June 2014. Globacom added 2.8 million for the period in review to inch past Airtel, ending at 27 million subscribers. Airtel dropped from 25.5 million to 25.3 million subscribers while Etisalat added 1.27 million subscribers to close at 19 million.

    With these figures market share are as follows:

    • MTN = 44%
    • Globacom = 21%
    • Airtel = 20%
    • Etisalat = 15%
