Globacom has ended its sponsorship of the Nigerian Premier League after more than 10 years. The last sponsorship agreement was signed at the beginning of the 2012/2013 league season and it ended at the end of 2016 Super Four football tournament which was held in both Kaduna and Uyo.

Globacom said it has hugely contributed to the development of football in Nigeria and Africa, as a whole, ever since it commenced operations in 2003 by committing funds to support the Nigerian national teams: the Nigerian Premier League, Nigerian Football Supporters Club, CAF Player of the Year Awards and other football initiatives.

The company has reportedly spent more than ₦8 billion to empower and promote the Nigerian Premier League to improve the league to be among one of the continent’s best three local leagues.

A new multi-sponsorship deals with different companies is expected to be announced for the upcoming season, which will see to it that these companies sponsor the league through different platforms.
