The upcoming GITEX Africa event in Morocco is set to highlight Africa’s rapid ascent as a key player in the global digital transformation arena, with a special emphasis on the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI). GITEX Africa, which is launching its second edition in Marrakech from May 29 to 31, 2024, will serve as a nexus for international thought leaders, government representatives, corporate entities, technology giants, startups, investors, and academics from 130 countries.
This summit, which focuses on technology and startups, is poised to foster impactful connections and propel Africa’s ambitious goals of nurturing an entrepreneurial and innovative economy. The event is orchestrated by KAOUN International, the international arm of the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), renowned for organizing the GITEX GLOBAL event in the UAE.
The 2024 edition of GITEX Africa is set to delve into the transformative impact of AI across various sectors, including cybersecurity, cloud computing, the Internet of Things (IoT), banking, telecommunications, agriculture, and education. The organizers have announced that approximately 700 startups from 45 countries will be showcasing their innovations at the event.
Dr. Ghita Mezzour, Morocco’s Minister of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, has indicated that the second iteration of GITEX AFRICA Morocco aligns with the nation’s strategic digital transition initiatives. Dr. Mezzour underscored the critical importance of harnessing the vast developmental opportunities presented by the digital shift for African nations.
Dr. Mezzour also highlighted that GITEX AFRICA Morocco 2024 will play a pivotal role in reinforcing Morocco’s status as a regional digital hub, thereby creating a fertile environment for attracting investment and fostering job creation.
The discussions at GITEX AFRICA Morocco 2024 are expected to be dominated by the potential of AI to transcend traditional barriers to economic growth in Africa. Tech industry leaders predict that the AI revolution could contribute an additional $1.2 trillion to Africa’s economy by 2030, potentially boosting the continent’s GDP by 5.6%.
Trixie LohMirmand, the CEO of KAOUN International, remarked on the recent strides in AI, noting that they have opened up novel avenues and momentum for Africa in its quest for digital transformation.
