Agri-tech startup AgroCenta has won a place in the grand final of Seedstars World Global startups competition coming up in Switzerland next year.
The event which took place recently in Accra saw Agrocenta win the Ghana round of the competition to stand a chance of winning up to US$1 million in equity investment.
Seedstarsworld is a Switzerland based startup competition that takes place in emerging markets. It identifies, promotes, connects and invests up to US$1million in emerging market startups through its exclusive startup competition in over 65 countries.
In addition to having the top startups pitching, the events are filled with disruptive tech, inspirational discussions, networking sessions and one flight ticket for the winner to come to the Seedstars Summit.
There are also 5 Regional Summits, where all Seedstars World winners of each region, as well as speakers, investors, corporate bodies, incubators, accelerators, governments and relevant stakeholders are brought together to one city to build bridges between regional ecosystems and discuss regional challenges.
The finals of the competition happens in the Seedstars Summit in Switzerland, an exciting event filled with breakout sessions, panel discussions, specialized workshops and the best minds from emerging markets, where the local winners compete to be crowned the Seedstars World Global Winner.
The growth program is a three month virtual acceleration program focused on growth and traction for 10-20 winners selected from the local competition winners. The program includes an investment of $50k of which $20k covers the program and the chance for follow-on funding.
Seedstars World is hosting local events across Africa this year, and has already picked winners in Mozambique, Tunisia, Tanzania, South Africa, Uganda, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Ivory Coast.
Eight selected startups got the chance to present their ideas in front of the local jury panel in the Ghana local round of competition.
AgroCenta was named the winner for its solution which empowers smallholder farmers through innovative technology. It will now join other winners from around the world at the Seedstars Summit in April, where it will pitch in front of an audience of 1,000 attendees.
Event-planning solution JamJar came second, with Kenko Doctor, an open marketplace with instant access medical histories, grabbed the last spot in the top three.
The eight startups pitched in front of a jury made up of David Hutchful from Bloom Impact, Patrick Quantson from Stanbic Bank, Klenam Fiadzoe from Sika and Fanny Dauchez from Seedstars World.
