Voters in Ghana have been enjoined to monitor election results from their mobile devices via the official app, ThumpsApp which is available on the Google Play Store and iTunes. According to the commission, election results would start trickling in after the official closing of voting at 17:00GMT.

Announcing this development in connection with today’s presidential and parliamentary elections holding across the country, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Charlotte Osei encouraged voters to download and install the new app which she said was developed by the electoral commission to help them monitor elections results.

She said ThumbsApp will give the public real-time access to the officially certified results and is available for devices that run on Android and iOS operating systems.

She also announced the preparedness of the electoral commission to implement an electronic transmission of elections results to ensure the integrity of the process.

“The Electronic Results Transmission System is also encrypted, making it impossible for anyone to interfere with or manipulate the results,” she said.

She also announced that for the first time in the country’s electioneering history, the Electoral Commission will be broadcasting the results collation process live on television, and publishing the results on the its website.
