Yesterday marked the launch of Windows 10, Microsoft’s next operating system. Upgrades to Windows 11 are now being rolled out to Windows 10 users for free, courtesy of the Software company. For the time being, Windows 10 will be available for free on new devices that are still arriving with the previous version of the OS.
However, upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11 will not be possible on every existing PC. The minimum system requirements for Windows 11 are an Intel 8th generation Coffee Lake or Zen 2 CPU, support for TPM 2.0, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage. Because of this, Windows 11 is inaccessible for millions of PCs, however, there are unsupported solutions available if you insist on using Windows 11.
Also, Windows 11 is being rolled out in stages by Microsoft, so the free update will not be available to all currently supported PCs just yet. According to Microsoft, the Windows 11 upgrade should be available to all current and eligible PCs by the middle of 2022.
If your PC came pre-installed with Windows 10 or you have a device that can be upgraded to Windows 11, here’s how to get it now.
Use Microsoft’s PC Health Check programme to verify that your PC is still supported by the company.
Make a complete backup of all of your files, programmes, and data.
Visit Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update on Windows 10 to begin the process of installing the latest Windows updates.
Keep an eye out for any new information.
You’ll be able to download and install Windows 11 for free if it’s available.
To get started, go ahead and click the “Download and Install” button.
Configure Windows 11 settings by following the on-screen prompts.
If your PC is supported by Microsoft and you don’t see the free Windows 11 upgrade, you can escape the wait by using the new Installation Assistant. We’ve put up a tutorial to help you bypass the upgrade queue and get started with Windows 11.
