The Federal Government has launched a free Artificial Intelligence (AI) Academy. Inaugurated by Chief Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, on December 19, 2024, in Abuja, this initiative is a collaborative effort with the Commonwealth Secretariat and Intel Corporation.

The AI Academy is designed to provide Nigerians, particularly students, youths, and civil servants, with access to self-paced courses covering AI fundamentals, ethics, tools, and real-world applications. This educational platform aims to equip participants with the necessary skills to thrive in an increasingly AI-driven world.

Beyond foundational knowledge, the program offers participants opportunities to compete for AI ambassadorial roles and internships with Intel Corporation, providing hands-on global experience. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to fostering a skilled workforce capable of leveraging AI technologies for national development.

Registration for the program has commenced and will last till January 30, 2025. Interested persons are to visit the Ministry’s official website. The government encourages all Nigerians to seize this opportunity to enhance their digital competencies and contribute to the nation’s technological advancement.

This initiative aligns with Nigeria’s broader strategy to integrate AI into various sectors, including governance, healthcare, and agriculture, thereby driving innovation and improving service delivery. By equipping its citizens with AI skills, Nigeria aims to harness the transformative potential of AI to address complex challenges and stimulate economic growth.

The collaboration with the Commonwealth Secretariat and Intel Corporation brings a wealth of expertise and resources to the AI Academy. Intel’s involvement, in particular, ensures that participants receive training that meets global industry standards, enhancing their competitiveness in the international job market.

Nigeria’s commitment to the Fourth Industrial Revolution is evident in the establishment of the AI Academy. By investing in AI education and training, the country is building a strong foundation for a future where technology drives societal progress.

As the digital landscape continues to evolve, initiatives like the AI Academy are crucial in ensuring that Nigeria not only keeps pace with global technological advancements but also becomes a leader in the digital economy. The government’s proactive approach in this regard is commendable and sets a precedent for other nations aiming to leverage AI for sustainable development.
