Forge Academy is a 4IR institution that emphasizes business incubation, and training development launched the 4IR internship for unemployed youths in South Africa.
The CEO of Forge Academy explained that the field of 4IR is a vital part of society and internship provides seamless opportunities for selected participants.
“The 4IR serves as an alternative educational system, but more of the core around which all academic programmes are developed ensuring all our learners are future fit. The 4IR provides entrepreneurship and employment opportunities for youth like never seen before. We have to take advantage of the opportunities and equip young African citizens to become our future leaders of the revolution.”
The internship
Thirty-three interns will be selected to take part in the programme and will be provided the chance to develop their digital skills and earn experience in the following 4IR fields: user experience (UX) design, software development, gaming design, 3D graphics, and more.
Applicants that are selected will participate in a four-week evaluation Bootcamp to determine if they will be selected as one of the 33 interns to participate in the programme. The selected candidates will work at Forge Academy for a year and they will receive accredited qualifications after completion and this will assist them to gain good employment at other companies after their internship.
The aim of the internship is to provide practical industry-related experience with the job training approach. Forge aims to mentor and educate the selected interns. Each intern will be assigned a mentor to assist and guide them.
After the completion of the internship, the interns will be able to access full-time employment opportunities at Forge Academy and be given the assistance to begin their own business ventures.
The sectors that rely on 4IR skills include trade and industry, science and technology, basic education, agriculture, higher education, communications, economic development, and health.

- Matric certificate
- Highest qualifications achieved
- Updated CV
- Proof of relevant experience in the field being applied for
In order to qualify for the internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be between the ages of 18 – 26
- Currently not be employed
- Be a South African citizen
- Have a Grade 12 certificate
