Concerns about food security globally have made countries try to combat food wastage and climate change. In Nigeria, for instance, there is malnutrition, food wastage especially in the rural areas, and poor food quality.

To tackle food waste, a Food Technology company Farm365 works closely with rural farmers to help reduce the post-harvest losses through the provision of a reliable and guaranteed market to sell farm produce before they are harvested.

The agritech company aims to ensure access to high-quality and low-cost food upon discovering that food waste is an issue that happens regularly in Nigeria. The founder of Farm3565, AbdulAziz Kabir stated that he grew up with the love of everything that revolves around farming and agriculture. He is a graduate of the School of Informatics in Kano State with a background in software.

The agritech company works closely with farmers to ensure fresh vegetables are provided to end-users like restaurants and households without issues. However, Abdulaziz felt his call was to build a solution that will reduce food waste starting from the farm, thus he founded Farm365 with the focus of the company reducing food waste.

    Farm365 overview

Farm365 platform is a fruit box and vegetable delivery marketplace which collects quality farm produce directly from rural farmers to sell in the cities through its last-mile delivery. The company asks customers and farmers to choose what they desire in their boxes. Then deliver to customers’ doorstep directly, therefore, serving as agents of food to fork.

Abdulaziz stated that, “Working alongside farmers will help us in actualizing our dream of zero waste. This will play a vital role in achieving food security, sustainable communities, and cities and it will harness proper production and consumption.”

Farm365 aims to provide access to low-cost high-quality food across African cities. As a result, it collaborated with Redex Logistics Limited and Cold Hubs to achieve a sustainable and effective end-to-end supply chain.

According to the founder, “a third of the food grown globally is wasted, and to stop this, all food produce must be eaten. Doing what is necessary to achieve the feat is what Farm365 does, specifically regards how we run our business. We believe we have the responsibility to assist more people to tackle food wastage and attaining that in a sustainable way. That is why we are Farm365.”

    Challenges and milestone

Startups are usually constrained to resources, Farm365 has grown gradually through the involvement of family and friends that let it attain the feat it is today. The startup is raising pre-seed round which will help it to continue building its product to attain a market fit in the coming months.

“Sourcing for farmers who grow vegetables from different states and clusters has been one of our milestones. As the farmers are the feeders of the platform. Farmer’s love what we are building and it makes us very excited”, the founder said.

However, Farm365 launched its website so customers can buy fruits and vegetables so more customers can communicate with them and order food produce.
