Flutterwave’s CFO, Oneal Bhambani, has announced his resignation from the fintech startup. He made this known on his LinkedIn page on Tuesday.
According to him,
“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”
Thank you to Flutterwave for a seat on its journey to scale payments across Africa. I wish everyone at Flutterwave the best and I will be rooting for you. Last week, I made the difficult decision to end my tenure at the company.
Over the past several years, I have been fortunate to have learned from great business leaders and worked with world-class teams. It has been a [rewarding] whirlwind from navigating the pandemic, the Kabbage sale, the Kabbage integration within American Express, and helping to scale Flutterwave across the globe with colleagues, partners, and investors in sub-Saharan Africa, London, Europe, and New York. Balancing it all with red-eye flights to make it back to Silicon Valley for [most] Saturday games with the Super Strikers was an adventure — our final game was last week, let’s chalk it up to a rebuilding year. 😂
It would not have been possible without the partnership of Rebecca Mendel and Oscar Lan. Rebecca and Oscar joined Flutterwave, alongside me, to head Controllership and FP&A respectively from American Express. It truly was an honor and privilege to work with them again. Thank you.
As for what is next, I am looking forward to taking a breath to reconnect with old friends and colleagues. I will be in India for the rest of November for Diwali and hope to spend time with folks in Mumbai — please message me if you are around to catch up and talk shop!
It is exactly clear why he is leaving the company considering the fact that he joined the company in May 2022. Oneal joined Flutterwave from American Express and Kabbage, where he managed fintech businesses operating at scale.
It is reported that Israel Koledowo, Head of Finance for Africa, will lead the finance department on an interim basis as it searches for a new CFO.
