Pan African fintech giant, Flutterwave, announced that it has acquired Disha, a Nigerian based company that empowers makers and creators with tools and templates to showcase their work and grow their business without writing code.
The acquisition of Disha by Flutterwave will ensure that creators can curate, showcase and receive payments for their hard work and creativity, seamlessly. This acquisition aims to grow the creator economy, particularly in Africa, and provide the tools and templates needed for them to showcase products and talents whilst receiving value for their creativity.
Disha was founded in 2019 by Evans Akanno, Rufus Oyemade and Blessing Abeng.
Interestingly, this is a positive turnaround for Disha which had announced in February 2021 that they were shutting down. Before the shutdown news, the company had bootstrapped to more than 20,000 users; claiming to have a monthly growth rate of about 100%. However, three days after the shutdown announcement, the company said that it was thinking of new options for the company and would share an update once a decision was reached.

So it is great news that this is the option the company chose.
Techcrunch reported that Flutterwave confirmed the acquisition story today but did not disclose the acquisition price. With the acquisition of Disha, Rufus Oyemade will continue as oversee the technology behind the product with a new role as software and architectural lead. Akanno and Abeng, the ex-CMO, left the company to pursue other projects.
Flutterwave also stated that Disha will continue to be an independent product with a distinct brand and operations. From now on, it wants to focus on features and integrations that help creators easily schedule meetings and exhibitions, build sustainable income through subscriptions and leverage emerging technologies in the creator space.
Flutterwave in its press release, stated how creators can grow with the Flutterwave and Disha Partnership and how buyers can explore more options with the Flutterwave and Disha Partnership.
How creators can grow with the Flutterwave and Disha Partnership
For sellers, if a purchase originates on Disha, the freelancer can create a customised website and get paid through there. If the purchase does not originate on Disha, the freelancer can create and send a Flutterwave payment link to complete transactions. Either way, creators and creatives can easily accept payments internationally and instantly.
How buyers can explore more options with the Flutterwave and Disha Partnership
As for buyers, Disha provides a marketplace to view and buy freelancers’ work and services on beautifully designed websites. Imagine a world where you’re not limited by geography? You can buy a digital product from a creative in Nairobi whilst in Johannesburg and add a new perspective to your digital life. Even better, you can pay this creative seamlessly through Flutterwave.
