Ghanaian based, Flippy Campus emerged the winner of $10,000 put up for grabs at Ingressive’s “A Tale of Ten Startups”. Flippy Campus beat the likes of fashpa.com, Techcabal.com, Heels.com.ng and more.
“A Tale of Ten Startups” took place yesterday at Maison Fahrenheit, Lagos Nigeria. CEOs and founders of 10 startups spent 2 minutes pitching their business and shared funny, sad, silly, inspiring or informative stories around building a Sub-Saharan startup.
Thereafter the audience was asked to rate the startups based on their stories.
David Sleek, founder of Flippy Campus, made quite an impression with his story about how he missed an examination because he did not know that the exam time had changed and he wasn’t informed. Apparently the change was only posted on his Faculty’s notice board. His story about entrepreneurship centred on his bid to win his father over in his journey into entrepreneurship.
Flippy Campus is an app that improves students’ campus experience by keeping them up to date on current campus happenings. By following the Flippy Campus channels, students are able to follow campus events from their halls and social groups including reminders for these events.
The Flippy Campus team was also named the most outstanding start-up in the DEMO Africa pre-pitch event in Accra.
According to founder of Ingressive, Maya Horgan Famodu, “Flippy Campus had a very clear, concise, compelling story. The product and problem are both very easy to understand. It resonated with participants.”
“Ingressive sources and tracks Sub-Saharan startups. These companies have been on our platform and are some of the top performing ones we watch. We wanted to provide a small seed investment as the lead investor in one of the opportunities. More importantly though, this event was a great opportunity for top-performing African businesses to connect with the more than 50 global investors who supported the event.”
A Tale of Ten Startups is part of Ingressive’s Tour of Tech 2015 Itinerary which started with Women in Business Luncheon on the same day. A Tale of ten Startups was powered by Potential VC.
