Nigerian Tech Startup Thrive Agric and four other African tech startups have been shortlisted to battle it out for the award of the “Most Promising Company of the Year” at the Africa CEO Forum schedule to hold in Abidjan, Ivory Coast next week.
The AFRICA CEO FORUM is the unparalleled gathering of the most influential African and international CEOs, bankers and investors. It has established itself as a unique platform dedicated to the private sector in Africa as well as corporate strategy in the African context, and takes place in a high-quality setting, conducive to doing business. A unique platform for thought-provoking discussions, the event brings together, each year, more than 1200 restless minds to debate and exchange on the issues affecting Africa’s economic development each year.
In its sixth edition, the Africa CEO Forum will feature its annual awards ceremony on Monday, March 26, which recognise the leaders, companies and investors whose strategies and performance have contributed most to the momentum of Africa’s growth over the past year.
According to Disrupt Africa, there are seven awards, ranging from “African Company of the Year” to “Private Equity Investor of the Year”, with this year’s edition featuring the “Most Promising Company of the Year” award for the first time, turning the spotlight on the continent’s startups.
As part of requirements to win this award, there will be a presentation of projects by the tech startups to a jury comprising specialist investors such as the International Finance Corporation (IFC), TLcom and Omidyar Network.
The five startups are Omniup from Morocco which offers free Wi-Fi access once an advertisement has been viewed; Senegal’s InTouch, which has developed a mobile money platform; Kenya’s Twiga Foods, which connects farmers and vendors for the sale of fresh produce; Kenya’s Africa’sTalking, which offers communication services; and Nigeria’s Thrive Agric, which offers technological solutions to improve agricultural yields.
