Fireboy DML and Ed Sheeran remix of “Peru” affirms acceptance of Nigerian music

Nigerian born Fireboy DML (real name Adedamola Adefolahan) and British Ed Sheeran have done a remix of Fireboy’s famous song “Peru” and it is really blowing up the airwaves. This affirms the growing acceptance of Nigerian music in the global space.

The video of the remix was released on YouTube on Christmas eve and as at the time of writing this article, it has had over 6.7 million views. Fireboy released a visualizer (a simplistic visual intended to accompany a song, much like a music video or lyric video) of the song in August this year and has garnered only 9.6 million views on YouTube. So this video will definitely promote the song.

A couple of days ago, Ed Sheeran revealed in a recent interview with Elton John on the Rocket Hour that he had recorded the remix for Fireboy’s hit single Peru. According to him, Fireboy had asked him to hop on the song’s remix through the founder of SBTV, Jamal Edwards.

“So I got sent this a week ago. A friend of mine, Jamal who runs SBTV sent it to me. He said,’Fireboy DML would love you on the remix of this song,” he said.

“It’s a song that’s blowing up in Nigeria and Ghana at the moment and their club scene runs over Christmas.”

“So you basically put a song to the club in the middle of December, which would seem a weird thing to do in England. But yeah, I’ve done the remix for this song, but this is the original and it’s an earworm.”

“It’s addictive, and I’m obsessed with it. I mean, Cherry will tell you, I’ve had this song on repeat constantly in the house for the last week.”

    Check out the video below

Peru, a South American country, reacted to the song on its Twitter handle encouraging people to listen to the song, saying that both musicians were inspired by the country to launch the song.

“PERU PARA, PERU PERU PARA!!! Seems like @edsheeran and @fireboydml were inspired by our country to launch their newest hit?”

😁 Have you already listened to it? It’s called “Peru” and sounds really catchy!

It has been a good year for Fireboy DML as he was recently unveiled as the ambassador of digital Microfinance bank, Kuda bank. Fireboy DML is signed to YBNL Nation, a record label founded by Nigerian rapper Olamide.
