Currently, the British Monarchy twitter account which has more than 760,000 followers, gives updates, pictures and videos from Buckingham Palace about the work and activities of The Royal Family and the institution of Monarchy.

The 88-year-old monarch has spent more than 60 years on the throne, during which time she has taken other steps to embrace new technology.

In 1953, at her own request, she became the first British monarch to have her coronation broadcast live on television. And back in 1976, she became the first monarch to send an e-mail during a visit to an army base.
