Annually, video game lovers especially fans of the FIFA soccer game series earnestly await the launch of its latest entry and just last Friday the much anticipated FIFA 18 was launched. According to Electronic Arts, it is already a hit as it recorded a peak of 1.6 million concurrent users across all platforms for the first weekend.
“That’s a lot of people playing FIFA 18,” EA said in a tweet announcing the figure. That’s as specific as EA got regarding the figure. It is not known how it compares to the first-weekend peak concurrent user figure for FIFA 17 or any other entry in the series. However, attempts are being made to contact EA to get more insight and context on the 1.6 million figure.
FIFA 18 is out now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, along with last-generation consoles. The game’s first title update hit PC earlier this week, making changes and improvements to numerous elements of the game.
GameSpot’s FIFA 18 review scored the game an 7/10. “This year’s improvements are welcome, but more needs to be done in the coming years if FIFA is to be a world-beater once again,” reviewer Oscar Dayus said.
It’s not the only big-time professional soccer game on the market currently, as Konami’s PES 2018 recently released as well.
Some of the latest features of the game include:
New Player Positioning
New Player Positioning gives you more freedom in motion as your teammates examine the pitch and react accordingly; darting forward in coordinated runs, or moving into space to provide consistent attacking support. You’ll see players break from the midfield to support a target man, get on the move early to anticipate a precise through ball, and open up the defence by playing the double give and go with team mates.
In FIFA 18 you’ll immediately recognize some of the world’s most-recognized tactics on the pitch. From catenaccio to counter attack, quick passing to direct play, you’ll see some of Europe’s best clubs’ playing styles authentically recreated and feel a change in defensive and attacking approaches every time you choose a new club or opponent.
Dynamic Quick Substitutes
For the first time, you can easily make changes in-game without having to pause with new context-based substitutions. Whether it’s a missed chance, or a necessary response to conceding a goal, you can instantly decide if a change is needed without visiting the menu.
