Remember the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 that was plagued by batteries thus catching fire and exploding? The electronics giant had no choice than to launch a worldwide recall of the phone and it lost almost $3.1 billion. In fact, it even announced that it was shelving the production of the phone.
This said, we hear that Samsung will start selling a refurbished version of the recalled Galaxy Note 7 smartphone in South Korea as from July 7.
According to reports, it is using batteries different from those that resulted in the smartphone catching fire last year.
About 4,00,000 phones, named the Galaxy Note 7 Fan Edition will go on sale at a price of 699,600 won ($611) in Samsung’s home country. This is about 30 percent lower than the Note 7’s original launch price. The devices will be made from recalled, unsealed Note 7 handsets and unused Note 7 parts.
Samsung said the batteries for the refurbished devices will have a lower capacity than those of the original Note 7s but have passed new safety measures effected following the recall.
