Meta has announced a new update to Facebook’s algorithm that aims to give users more control over the videos they see — particularly Reels — while improving personalization and reducing unwanted content across the platform.
The update introduces several key features, including AI-powered search suggestions, friend activity bubbles, and enhanced feedback tools that let users fine-tune their viewing experience. According to Meta, the rollout is part of its broader effort to make Facebook’s content discovery more transparent and user-driven.
Under the new system, users can now easily mark Reels as “Not Interested,” or flag specific comments they find unappealing. This feedback will directly inform the recommendation engine, ensuring that users see fewer unwanted videos over time.
The company has also simplified the “Save” feature, making it easier to collect favorite Reels and posts in one organized location.
The move follows ongoing complaints from Facebook users about low-quality or misleading Reels content, including scam videos and AI-generated clips that clutter feeds. Meta’s investment in artificial intelligence continues to shape the platform’s content experience — including the recent introduction of “Vibes,” a short-form video feed within the Meta AI app featuring only AI-generated videos.
Another highlight of the update is its focus on recency and relevance. Facebook says users will now see 50% more Reels that were uploaded on the same day they’re scrolling, improving freshness and engagement.
In addition, AI-powered search suggestions will appear under videos, recommending related topics and helping users discover more content they enjoy — a feature similar to TikTok’s gray suggestion bar.
The update also adds “friend bubbles” to Reels and the main feed, allowing users to see which posts their friends have liked. Tapping a bubble — which shows a friend’s profile picture — opens a private chat window for easier sharing and conversation.
