Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has revealed that the company will now direct its efforts towards serving young adults. He made this known while interacting with investors yesterday. Zuckerberg during the interaction expressed his concern over the growing decline in usage among teens and young adults.
He said, “So much of our services have gotten dialed to be the best for the most people who use them, rather than specifically for young adults.”
He also mentioned TikTok has the most effective competitor his team has ever faced.
Zuckerberg also vowed that the company will go all out to bring about a change. The change according to him will drive a decline in usage among older users. A situation he doesn’t mind as it is the right approach.
The change will be a long-term process but there will be an immediate focus on Instagram which Zuckerberg says will see “significant changes” to lean further into video and make Reels “a more central part of the experience.”
With TikTok in its crosshairs, the shift toward video is clearly a response to the video streaming platform; its acclaimed arch-rival.
According to reports Facebook was alarmed to see a sharp decline in usage with fear of gloomy days ahead. A leaked Facebook document also show ideas Facebook considered to increase usage among younger users, including revamped groups, job finding tools, and “mood feeds.”
