Facebook has paid $10,000 to a 10 year old Finnish boy for finding a flaw in Instagram. According to Finnish news site Iltalehti, Jani (surname withheld) figured out a way to get into Instagram’s servers and delete text posted by Instagram users.
This means Jani could delete what other people wrote on their Instagram accounts. He said he could even delete Justin Bieber’s comments with the flaw he found.
According to Jani’s father, Jani and his twin brother have been searching for security holes in the past and have found a few. However, they have been so small that they do not have paid any fees.
Facebook paid Jani $10,000 as part of its bug bounty program, which offers cash rewards to people who find bugs and flaws in Facebook’s digital infrastructure. That includes the Facebook-owned Instagram.
Facebook has received over 13,000 submissions from researchers in 2015 alone, 526 of which were valid reports. The Social Media giant paid out $936,000 to 210 researchers in 2015.
