Social media giant, Facebook, is said to be working on a Clubhouse clone.
According to a report from The New York Times, Facebook executives have ordered employees to create a similar product and it is said that the product is in its earliest stages of development.
Clubhouse is an invitation-only audio-chat social networking app launched in 2020 by founders, Paul Davison and Rohan Seth. It gained its reputation, in part, on exclusivity. You cannot just sign in, you have to be invited by someone already in the Clubhouse. Recently, Clubhouse secured more funding from Andressen Horowitz, valuing the social audio app at $100 million.
Just recently CEO Mark Zuckerberg joined Clubhouse and participated in a room to talk about the future of augmented and virtual reality. Some think this was needful for the founder to know more about the social network app and understand the platform.
Facebook is known for ensuring it is in touch with new trends. It either copies competitors or acquires them. Examples of copying competitors include Stories from Snapchat and Reels from TikTok. Acquisition includes bought the photo-sharing site Instagram, the messaging app WhatsApp and the virtual reality company Oculus when all were small start-ups
