Facebook has released an update its service allowing users to upload 7 seconds looping video as profile videos instead of the conventional profile picture.

Lately, Facebook has been releasing updates that tend to place emphasis on video content – from autoplay videos to its shareability. In addition, the Facebook update allows users to pin Featured Photos to the top of the profile and to create temporary pictures.

The looping profile video feature can be set by tapping the profile photo of the account. . You tap the record button and can shoot for up to 7 seconds with sound. The looping video will auto-play without sound (unless clicked) on your profile and the feed story about you uploading it. A still cover image you select will appear everywhere else, such as the small thumbnail that appears next to your News Feed stories.

The pinned featured images on the other hand, grants more visibility to certain images picked by the user. This allows new users or followers to have the right impression of the person they just Friended or followed. As for Temporary Profile Pictures, they allow the user to select a profile picture and stipulate how long the photo remain a profile picture. When the time elapses, the account reverts to the previous profile photo.
