Facebook Highlights Fake News Story in its Trending Topics

Facebook, which is the biggest social media in the world with 1.65 billion monthly active users has highlighted a fake news story in its trending topics which has  lend credence to widespread accusation that it influences its trending topics.

According to reports, Facebook promoted a story about Megyn Kelly, Fox News anchor that she has been sacked by her employees for supporting Hillary Clinton, the Democratic Party Presidential nominee. The story which was trending for hours turned out to be false before it was taken down.

This comes just a few days after Facebook announced that humans would not write descriptions for trending topics anymore rather an algorithm will screen relevant extracts of an article and display it beneath the topics. This obviously is yet to have any impact as humans are still responsible for deciding what topics are worthy of hitting Facebook’s trending area

This goof or hoax by Facebook will raise more questions about the genuineness of its trending topics despite efforts to diffuse these doubts.
