At the F8 2018 yesterday, Facebook announced that group video chat is coming to WhatsApp and Instagram very soon.
More than 100 million Instagrammers watch or share on Live every day. In the coming weeks, Instagram will be introducing video chat feature for friends to spend time together — even when they aren’t actually together. Video chat will be available in Instagram Direct and will empower both one-on-one and group conversations.
To start a video chat on Instagram, all you have to do is simply tap the new camera icon at the top of a Direct thread. You can chat one-on-one or with a small group — and you can keep the conversation going for as long as you like. You can also minimize the video and continue the chat while doing other things on Instagram.
The Instagram video chat is testing now and will roll out globally soon.
Facebook also talked about the introduction of video chat on WhatsApp. The CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that people have already used some 2 billion minutes of one-on-one video calling on the messaging service, so it’s set to roll out group video chats in the coming months.
It is expected that specific details of this feature will be revealed in the coming weeks.
