Facebook separated its Messenger app from its Facebook app not too long ago for a richer user experience. Now the company intends on expanding the messenger app’s functionality in a big way by announcing a new Facebook Messenger Platform. As the name suggests, the app is now a platform of its own which will give third-party developers access to its platform…”so this isn’t just a regular update.”

The Messenger app will now allow third-party apps to integrate with it and it will launch with 40 supported apps for now, all of which are designed to help users express themselves in new ways. Users are allowed to launch and install apps from the Facebook Messenger app itself that add additional features to the experience. Also, the company didn’t waste any time by releasing an SDK for developers to create apps that will integrate with Messenger platform.

Facebook also showed off a new Messenger Business platform that will allow businesses to interact with customers in unique ways and offer shipping notifications via the app.
