Facebook has announced today that it will be broadcasting its first live sporting event to feature Lebron and Cleveland Cavaliers. This is in conjunction with NBA and Turner Sports. There will be a broadcast of Cavs practice live on the NBA TV Facebook page. There had been investigations of the potentials of live broadcasts on social networks. An example can be found in broadcasting of select spring training games live on Facebook in 2011, but the streams were limited to viewers who subscribed to MLB’s video services. The NBA’s “Real Training Camp,” on Thursday From Oct. 1, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET will be simulcast on NBA TV’s Facebook page and NBA.com. Contents of the program will include the team’s practice routine and interviews with players, coaches and front-office personnel.
In addition to the Cavaliers’ training-camp special show on Thursday, this week also will air “Real Training Camp” segments with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Milwaukee Bucks and Memphis Grizzlies that will also be streamed live on NBA.com.
This is definitely good news for basketball fans round the world as one of the most used social networks; Facebook is used as live broadcast platform for this event.
Recently, video viewing had increased drastically on Facebook competing strongly with Google’s Youtube. In Nigeria, Thursday has been declared a holiday so viewing is all yours.
