Former chief executive of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Ernest Ndukwe will take over as the Chairman of MTN Nigeria from Pascal Dozie, who has been at the helm for almost two decades, on Sept. 2.
The announcement was made by the telecoms giant yesterday and it follows a board shake-up after its debut stock market listing on the Nigerian bourse. A statement released by the company’s spokesman, Funso Aina, said the men were retired following the expiration of their tenure and in compliance with applicable codes of corporate governance.
According to MTN Nigeria Chief Executive Ferdinand Moolman, “On behalf of MTN Nigeria, I would like to offer our heartfelt thanks to our pioneering Chairman, Pascal Dozie and the outgoing Directors. Our journey over the last 18 years has been incredible, and it would not have been possible without the initial entrepreneurial spirit of our founding directors, and their unfailing and dedicated support for MTN Nigeria’s vision over the years. I could not have asked for a more supportive, knowledgeable and experienced group of advisors.”
MTN Nigeria also announced that it has appointed former Nigerian pension regulatory chief Muhammad Ahmad, ex-minister for communication Omobola Johnson and ex-banker Andrew Alli who once represented the International Finance Corporation to the board.
“The combination of extensive experience across the worlds of technology, finance, regulatory and policy development and corporate governance offers a hugely synergistic set of skills that will be of great benefit to us as we move into a new phase of growth.” said Moolman.
