It was very interesting to watch the development of Eventtus, a startup in Africa. It used to be two young individuals whom we know to be Women in Tech. These two entrepreneurs took on the ‘Silicon Valley startup culture’ to bring innovation to event ticketing. However, today we are reporting that Eventtus, though achieved decent results, has been acquired by Bevy.
Bevy, an event platform, specialises in virtual, hybrid and private events. It recently acquired Eventtus for an undisclosed amount. The Company raised $61.4 million in venture capital.
With the acquisition, twenty (20) Eventtus engineers have joined the Bevi team alongside Egyptian founders Mai Medhat and Nihal Fares.
This purchase expands Bevy’s stack of event technologies to include a mobile in-person conferencing app and many other engagement tools that allow members to connect in an open-world, people-to-person event program.
According to the CEO and co-founder of Bevy, Derek Andersen, “Enterprises have invested in creating connected communities for their customers, employees and partners.”
With this acquisition, Andersen thinks that this will strengthen Bevy’s leadership role in terms of corporate events. “Events are not only an extension of these communities but also provide an important channel for driving ongoing engagement,” the CEO added.
Medhat and Fares did amazing things while at Eventtus. But they did their job, at least not to mention that in an exciting political time in Egypt and in the country. And a global launch pandemic competing with Hopin, Attendify, Bizzabo and Swapcard who are big players in the mobile event application space, as Medhat noted in a conversation during a press release.
The reason for Eventtus’ acquisition was because it lacked a tech stack and some expertise in the field of event technology. Bevy focuses on giving companies the ability to create communities, and with this acquisition, they will provide value for attendees of events.
Medhat is now the Vice President, Innovation, while Fares will act as the new company’s Director for Product Management.
In terms of the impact on the Egyptian ecosystem, this is very good news. Eventtus is one of the rising technology stars in the MENA region, and its founders will continue to do so for years to come.
