The European Union (EU) has provided funds for installation of ECOLink software for the internal management system of the ECOWAS Parliament to the tune of €2.48 million. The application will eliminate weaknesses in procurement system, internal controls, financial reporting and external audit through the discarding of manual process.

The Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, added that ECOLink would reduce overhead costs, adding that there are the major advantages of efficiency in time management as well as accountability in resource management.

“The ECOLink would also ensure that the minimal resources at the parliament’s disposal are better utilised and checking or control of abuse is better guaranteed,” he added.

Ekweremadu, who is also Deputy Speaker of the Nigerian Senate called on the ECOWAS Parliament staff members to make proper use of this modern technology and ensure that the objectives of deploying it are met.

Similar software had also been launched at the ECOWAS Commission and the ECOWAS Court of Justice.
