Ethiopian state-owned telecommunications company, Ethio–Telecom is set to be privatized; being the first of state-owned companies to be so. This was confirmed by Ethiopia’s Ministry of Finance Communication Director, Haji Ebsa.

The director explained that the telco will be prioritized in order to set the pace for others. Four other state-owned companies have been identified for privatization.

The move is set to encourage local and foreign investors, and to stimulate the country’s development and economic growth. The Ethiopian News Agency quoted Haji as saying, “Accordingly, technical and steering committees are established under Ministry of Finance, and a macro committee under the Office of the Prime Minister.”
