Eskom, the power utility company, has confirmed the appointment of Dan Marokane as its new CEO, reaffirming prior reports. His tenure would commence on 31 March 2024.
Marokane is making a return to Eskom after being suspended along with three other top executives due to their stance against state corruption, fraud, and capture. His experience extends to roles in organisations dealing with visible distress and high-pressure turnaround mandates, according to Eskom.
The hiring of Marokane was the result of an extensive, meticulous, and highly competitive recruitment process, as stated by the Eskom Board Chairman, Mteto Nyati.
He commented that the Board had conducted a global search for a suitable candidate with the right leadership characteristics, business orientation, and a proven track record in the energy sector.
“We are thrilled to welcome him to our team and are convinced that his collaborative efforts with the executive committee and the Board will be instrumental in building the future Eskom, based on a culture of high performance.” Nyati added.
Marokane will be succeeding Andre de Ruyter, the previous CEO, who had stepped down from his role a year back because of a decline in backing from both the government and the Board.
