Flutterwave, a fintech payment platform, has denied media reports making the rounds on the purported shutdown of the payment channel created for contributions towards the #EndSARS protest.

In a statement tagged, ‘public statement regarding erroneous publications by Thisday, Nairametrics and Arise TV’, the company said that the statement accredited to chairman Mr. Tunde Lemo, as quoted by Thisday as saying he personally directed the suspension of the fintech firm’s payment platform, was untrue.

According to the ThisDay’s report, the former deputy governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) explained that he took the decision to prevent the illicit flow of funds through the payment channel.

The development occurred after the CBN allegedly accused fintech payment platform, of funding peaceful agitators.

It was learnt that the CBN also summoned the company due to its role as donation hub, temporarily disabling the donation link and asking the company to prove that the donations are not from terrorists.

Flutterwave, in a statement sent to Techeconomy.ng condemning the ThisDay’s report read: Public Statement regarding erroneous publications by Thisday, Nairametrics and Arise TV

“Our attention has been drawn to false quotes by Thisday, Nairametrics and Arise TV which have been erroneously attributed to our Board Chairman, Tunde Lemo.

“Contrary to these reports, this interview never happened. Our payment platforms are up and running efficiently, as usual.

“Merchant payouts and collections are running seamlessly. Our consumer product, Barter by Flutterwave, is also completely operational.

“We are overwhelmed by the love and support Flutterwave has received over the last few days as we continue to simplify payments for endless possibilities for you.”
