Empower and Serve (Empserve), a non-profit organization committed to uplifting youth and marginalized communities through technological education and sustainable development initiatives, has unveiled its pioneering venture: the establishment of Kenya’s inaugural eco-village and center for social innovation located in Kajiado County.
This initiative is designed to tackle the distinct challenges faced by the region by promoting sustainable living and empowering the community to devise their own solutions.
The eco-village is envisioned to be a model of ecological preservation and sustainable lifestyle practices. It will feature an array of eco-friendly technologies, including renewable energy systems, state-of-the-art water-saving techniques, and sustainable farming practices, all intended to serve as a scalable prototype for environmentally conscious living.
The social innovation hub, situated within the eco-village, will provide essential services such as educational programs, healthcare facilities, and business development training. The hub’s objective is to catalyze social innovation, with a focus on improving living standards for the inhabitants of Kajiado County. It aims to offer special support to women, who often encounter substantial obstacles in accessing employment and educational opportunities due to deep-seated cultural practices.
Samwel Lasiti, the project advisor at Empserve, highlighted the vital role of community engagement in the success of the project. “Empserve is dedicated to ensuring that community members are actively involved at every stage of the project. We are placing the community at the heart of every step we take,” he stated.
