American electric vehicle and clean energy company, Tesla, rolled out its first car in 2008. It was the Roadster and the company only sold 2,500 of it.
Now in 2020, in its 12th year, it is celebrating the production of its 1 millionth car. This announcement was made by Elon Musk in a tweet with a group photo of Tesla employees celebrating the occasion.
The model in his tweet, which is the 1 millionth vehicle, is a Model Y SUV. It is the company’s fifth model, after Roadster, Model X, Model S, and Model 3. It can currently be ordered for $52,990 and above.
Tesla’s emergence and dominance in the electric vehicle space has led to the other auto manufacturers and consumers taking the space seriously. And the company is not slowing down. It opened its second vehicle production facility in Shanghai, China, earlier this year and plans are in the works for a third plant in Germany.
