Billionaire Elon Musk has finally spoken concerning the CEO job at Twitter. He says, in his words, he would “resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job!” He also added that “after that, I will run the software & servers teams.”
He had launched a poll asking if he should step down as CEO of Twitter and he said he would abide by the result of the poll. The result of the poll stated that 57.5% of respondents say he should step down.
Well this new twist is not entirely unexpected as he had said some days ago that if he steps down, who will take over? In his own words, “the question is not finding a CEO, the question is finding a CEO who can keep Twitter alive.”
So it would seem that he wants someone as controversial, dynamic and bold to take up the reins of the social media platform that he purchased for $44 billion. He has invested quite a lot in this venture. He has had to sell a lot of his tesla shares to pay for the purchase.
His recent activities on the platform has been to increase the rating of and engagement on the platform. He needs to increase the revenue of the platform and reduce the payback period for his investment.
Even though it would seem he has bungled on some issues like firing over 50% of the workforce without clearly confirming their functions, introducing a pricing format for Twitter Blue and introducing unfavourable policies, he has increased interest on the platform. He stated that the micro-blogging site now serves 90 billion impressions per day.
So it seems that we may have to wait a bit longer for a new CEO for Twitter. The journey continues…..
