Egypt has reached an accord with China to collectively manufacture electric cars in the North African country. The pact formed part of the reasons for Al Sisi, the Egyptian President’s visit to China.
Egypt had in the latter part of last year held a conference in the Country’s capital where the issue of electric cars was discussed. During the conference, Yasmine Fouad, Egypt’s Minister of Environment had disclosed that the Ministry had started working on the sustainable transportation project six years ago as part of the government’s efforts in alleviating carbon emission levels in Egypt.
Sequel to the announcement of the agreement, Fouad said, “We do not want to have a technology that will fade away after a couple of years. Sustainability means continuation without wasting natural resources.”
It is worth noting that Egypt in February had commissioned its first-ever electric car charging station as part of the government’s effort to reduce carbon emission in the country.
As part of the deal, close to 2,000 buses will be produced in Egypt over the next four years with Egyptian components making 45%.
