This week, a Nigerian company eFluxz Mobile Solutions will be launching Laffhub, a platform it described as Africa’s largest comedy. Speaking on behalf of the startup, Gideon Esurua revealed the platform will officially go live on 4 February and there are plans already in place to ensure a smooth roll out.
He said the idea for the platform came from his partner.
“He saw this gap in the market and saw an opportunity where we could add great value, especially through mobile. Comedy has great traction in Africa and we saw another avenue where it could be monetized,” he said.
The platform is said to be the continent of Africa’s largest comedy hub with content from some of the continent’s best comedians including those from Nigeria especially Basketmouth and AY, and the acts on Buni TV.
Nigeria accounts for over 70% of the content in addition to Nigerian content produced outside the country.
“The service will be national in Nigeria and we want to be the Netflix of Comedy in Africa. We’re looking at all African comedy acts coming on board. We’re recruiting them fast by the end of Q2 there will be 10,000 different pieces of content,” he said.
