Yesterday Econet Wireless officially launched its Video On Demand (VoD) service for its flagship Kwesé iflix mobile application, just a month after the mobile television services gained over a million subscribers during the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Kwesé iflix, which took Zimbabwe by storm during the 2018 FIFA World Cup held in Russia is now the country’s largest television platform, with more than 1.2 million active subscribers.

Speaking at the launch of Kwese iflix Million Dollar Promotion in Harare yesterday, Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Chief Executive Officer, Mr Douglas Mboweni said their mobile television application was already the largest streaming service of its kind in Africa.

“Streaming is the future of television, particularly here in Africa,” said Mboweni.

He added that the number of people watching sports, entertainment and cutting-edge content programing on Kwesé iflix was growing in leaps and bounds,  adding that traffic recorded on the Econet network suggested that at least three people were using a Kwesé iflix account.

“We could have as many as three million viewers on Kwesé iflix here in Zimbabwe alone, and reports from other African markets like Nigeria, Tanzania, Kenya and Ghana suggest they are seeing similar growth,” he said.

Econet Wireless Zimbabwe, the largest mobile network in the country, with the widest and fastest mobile data network has more than 4.6 million smart phones connected to its network.

The company’s extensive 3G and LTE (4G) data networks – as well as its Wi-Fi hotspots dotted around the country – allow customers to easily stream and watch Kwesé iflix video content.

Mboweni said the million dollar promotion intended to reward users of the service and encourage even greater uptake and usage.

The million dollar promotion presents Kwese iflix users with the chance to win 12 brand new vehicles, tablets, mobile phones, and guaranteed daily prizes for every user.

The promotion will also feature weekly and monthly regional draws across the country, where customers stand a chance to win a car in every draw, among many other exciting prizes.

The Kwesé iflix service, which is available on a free mobile app on the Apple Store and on Google Play, offers users the choice of a vast array of rich and diverse content, as well as the convenience of viewing it wherever and whenever they want to.
