One of the new features on Android 12 is that you can now share WiFi password in an easier way and it doesn’t involve scanning QR codes. It uses the Android smartphone “Nearby Share”.
Hitherto from Android 10, if you want to share your WiFi password with a friend, you will need to generate the QR code which will then be scanned using his camera.
With Android 12, no QR scanning is involved. When the QR code is generated, you will see a “Nearby” button underneath the QR code. With the Android’s Nearby Share feature, you can transmit the Wi-Fi credentials to anybody nearby
To share your WiFi password, please do the following:
- Go to Settings,
- Click on the Wi-Fi,
- Select the network you want to share, and tap “Share.”
- You’ll then get the option to share the network via a QR code, or through Nearby Share.
- If you choose the Nearby Share option, the phone will look for devices nearby, and the person on the other device will get a notification, asking him/her to accept the share.
- Once the receiver accepts the share, they can connect to the Wi-Fi network
Note that throughout the process, the password will not be displayed and the person that wants the password must have “Nearby Share” feature enabled on his/her phone
