Late last year, the prominent privacy-focused search engine DuckDuckGo released a desktop web browser. The web browser is now available for Mac, and it includes a number of privacy-focused features like as automated web-tracker blocking, a new cookie pop-up prevention feature, and more.
The DuckDuckGo Web Browser for Mac is Now Available in Beta
DuckDuckGo claims through its official post that its web browser app for Mac is a “all-in-one privacy solution for everyday browsing with no complicated settings” and includes a powerful tracker blocker, email protection, password manager, and its famous “Fire” button, which lets users clear their browsing history and tabs with a single click, according to an official blog post.
The DuckDuckGo browser now has a new cookie pop-up protection function that prevents you from seeing those nasty cookie consent pop-ups that display when you first visit a website. According to the firm, the functionality will automatically select the option that blocks or minimizes tracking cookies. During the beta phase, it will be available on 50% of websites, with more websites being added as the testing develops.
Users will also have access to a privacy feed on the browser’s homepage, similar to the Privacy Report found on Safari’s homepage. Unlike the latter, though, the DuckDuckGo privacy feed will make it easier for users to control and delete their data. Furthermore, it will block some material on websites like Facebook that employs embedded trackers, and users will be prompted to grant access via a notification.
DuckDuckGo claims that its new browser employs the same rendering engine as Safari and has better graphics performance than Chrome, which is presently one of the fastest browsers for Macs. The fact that the current DuckDuckGo browser uses 60% less data than Chrome is also noted by the business. Apart from that, there is a built-in Smarter Encryption support, which allows users to access encrypted versions of websites more often than not. Also included are all of the “functions you’d expect from a browser, such as password management, tab management, bookmarks, and more.”
Users can join a private waitlist to obtain access to the new DuckDuckGo browser for Mac when it becomes available. Users must first download the DuckDuckGo mobile app and then select the “Join the Private Waitlist” option from the app’s settings. A Windows version is also on the way, according to the business.
