Dropbox today announced it has rolled out a new feature dubbed Dropbox Transfer.
The new feature enables users share easily their files without them sharing access to their personal copies of those files.
A Dropbox post reads, “Transfer is our answer to a common problem: Sometimes you simply want to hand off files. No giving people edit access to your originals, no links that let people download updates you make later—just, “Here are your files!”
Dropbox Transfer rolled out to a limited group of users last summer. Now Dropbox has announced that the feature is available for users on all plans of its service (with varying limits).
Dropbox said, “Transfer is designed for times when you need to turn over large collections of final files to clients and other people outside your company. We’re excited to help everyone easily deliver files, so today we’re rolling Transfer out to all Dropbox users, along with new features.”
Users can now compile their files into a transfer, thereafter they get a link to a landing page that they can share, while the people who get it can directly download the file from that page or save it to their Dropbox account.
Also, Dropbox Transfer enables users the luxury of sending up to 100MB of files with a free Dropbox account, which could be handy if they need to email files that are larger than Gmail’s 25MB limit for attachments.
Here’s the limit breakdown by plan type:
- Note: The size limit of your transfer depends on the plan you have.
- Basic (free): 100MB
- Plus: 2GB
- Professional: 100GB
- Business Standard: 2GB
- Business Advanced, Enterprise, or Education: 100GB
Transfer allows users determine the expiry time of transfers and enables them customize the background on their transfer page.
Dropbox is also rolling out support through the iOS and desktop apps in addition to Dropbox.com.
“You can now start a transfer from the Dropbox desktop and iOS apps in addition to dropbox.com. Plus, you can access transfers that others send to you through our iOS app. And we’re giving you the ability to customize the design with a background and logo that will appear when recipients view your transfers,” Dropbox said via its post.
Dropbox Transfer is live now for all customers with various plans.
