Cloud Storage application, Dropbox now allow users to edit PDF files saved into their Dropbox account while using iOS applications, with support for Android set to arrive soonest probably next year. Dropbox’s partnership with Adobe which took off last month includes integration of Dropbox into Adobe’s document cloud. This integration brings into light the Adobe Acrobat DC and Adobe Reader which allows users to have direct access to PDF files they have stored on dropbox and edit them. This synergy also enables collaborative editing of PDF files stored on Dropbox.
With live integration in Dropbox’s iOS applications, users will be able to annotate or comment on their PDF files stored in Dropbox, or even electronically sign a PDF using the Acrobat Reader app, and have their changes saved back in Dropbox. Users can click the Edit button after first opening the PDF file they need to make changes to from within the Dropbox iOS app. For Adobe customers currently using Dropbox as their primary file storage solution of choice, this integration will be of immense benefit to both companies taking into consideration the seamless ways of storing, sharing and editing files.
The key focus of the integrations, according to the company, will be on ease of editing while on the move (as well as automatic cloud backups), the ability to easily share PDFs with others working on the same project/PDF via a Dropbox account, and quick access from any device (desktop, mobile, or tablet), with seamless switching.
Dropbox entered the document collaboration space last month with the launch of Paper, a competitor to Google’s doc with offerings from checklists, rich media embeds, @mentions, and more.
The Acrobat Reader app is available free for iOS and Android users. An in-app purchase available in either version adds the ability to create and export PDFs. Adobe Acrobat DC (“Document Cloud”) is available by subscription or on the desktop and lets people work with the same PDFs across different devices by tapping into the cloud.
