The campaign website of President Donald Trump was hacked briefly by Cryptocurrency scammers.
The message had the headline – “this site was seized” “the world has had enough of the fake news spreaded daily” by president donald j. Trump.”
The hackers claimed they had evidence that discredits the president, “proving his criminal involvement and co-operation with foreign actors manipulating the 2020 elections.”
The hack was first dsicovered by Gabriel Lorenzo Greschler on Twitter, and it seemed that it took place shortly before 12 midnight WAT
The hackers claimed to have inside information on the “origin of the corona virus” and other information discrediting Trump. They provided two Monero addresses – one for people who wanted the “strictly classified information” released, the other for those who would prefer to keep it secret. After an unspecified deadline the totals of cryptocurrency would be compared and the higher total would determine what was done with the data.
(Monero is an open-source cryptocurrency that focuses on fungibility, privacy and decentralization. It uses an obfuscated public ledger, meaning anybody can broadcast or send transactions, but no outside observer can tell the source, amount or destination.)
However the website was restored to its original content within a few minutes of the hack taking place.
Trump’s campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh confirmed the hack saying, “Earlier this evening, the Trump campaign website was defaced and we are working with law enforcement authorities to investigate the source of the attack. There was no exposure to sensitive data because none of it is actually stored on the site. The website has been restored.”
The US President is presently on a campaign tour to drum up support for a second term in office on the Republican ticket.
