    Do you have teenagers who use TikTok? Use “Family Pairing” to protect them online

    TikTok has a plethora of safety features that can restrict the type of content that young users can access.

    As a Mom or dad, you can help your kids stay safe on TikTok by initiating some appropriate safety settings. This will help limit their exposure to inappropriate content on TikTok as you link their accounts via the ‘Family Pairing’ feature.

    Of course, in order to take advantage of this safety feature, you have to create your own TikTok account.

    Once your TikTok account is linked to your child’s, you have the ability to do things like;

    1. Limit your child’s daily app use and turn on the app’s “Restricted Mode,” which blocks offensive content.
    2. Restrict your child’s access to particular channels or content on TikTok, and disable the app’s search features and prevent his or her account from being discovered in searches or through recommendations.
    3. Making your teen’s account private, limiting who can see his or her “liked” videos, plus blocking users from sending them comments or direct messages.
    4. Completely disable DMs if you feel it’s necessary.

    How to activate the “Family Pairing” feature

    1. Open the TikTok mobile app from each user’s device, scroll to the bottom-right corner of the page and tap “Profile” to begin the process of linking a parent and teen account.

    2. Tap the three dots you see at the top right corner of the screen, and then choose the option that says “Settings and privacy.”

    3. Then, under “Content & Activity,” select “Family Pairing,” then “Continue,” and finally, “Parent” on the adult’s device and “Teen” on the younger user’s.

    4. Follow the on-screen prompts by tapping the “Next” button.

    5. A QR code will be generated on the parent’s account, which the teen will need to scan with their own device to complete the linking process.

    TikTok users who want a less overwhelming experience can use many functions to control their content exposure.

    You can, for example, report content that doesn’t meet your interests or you feel is “inappropriate”. It is possible to also hide those overcrowding chats that flood your screens when a live stream is on by a favourite.

    The Family Pairing feature is a handy tool on TikTok that allows parents and guardians to monitor their children’s on the short-video platform to ensure they aren’t coming across anything inappropriate.

    And since the social media platform is used by people of all ages, it is necessary that the company provide safeguards to protect the privacy and security of its younger users.
