Disney has announced that it would be entering big into the streaming wars with the launch of a bundle including Disney+, ESPN+ and Hulu.
And this bundle will be available as from November 12, 2019 for $12.99 per month. This bundle offering is certainly cheaper than or on par with streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
Hulu is currently available for $5.99 a month (with ads) while ESPN+ costs $4.99 a month. Disney+ is scheduled for launch for $6.99 per month also from November 12, 2019. So getting all these is a bundle for $12.99 a month is a massive offer.
With this bundle offer, Disney seeks to dominate its primary area of focus – general entertainment, family, and sports
Hulu is a U.S.-based subscription video on demand service fully controlled and majority-owned by Walt Disney Direct-to-Consumer & International, a business segment of The Walt Disney Company, with Comcast’s NBCUniversal as an equity stakeholder owning 33%.
ESPN+ is Disney’s sports streaming platform and it offers “hundreds of MLB, NHL and MLS games, Grand Slam tennis, Top Rank boxing, PGA Tour golf, college sports, international rugby, cricket, the full library of ESPN Films including 30 for 30, and more.”
Disney+ which will launch in November 2019, will have a robust library of theatrical and television content, and in its first year will release more than 25 original series and 10 original films, documentaries and specials by some of the industry’s most prolific and creative storytellers.
Disney+ will include content from the Disney brand itself, Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars and National Geographic. It will ride on the marketing for all of Disney’s big-budget films being released for the holiday season such as Frozen 2 (Nov. 22) and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (Dec. 20).
This new Disney streaming bundle will certainly have an adverse impact on other streaming services like Netflix. With the launch of Disney’s service, its content will mostly disappear from Netflix by late 2019.
