It has been confirmed that Xbox version of the Disney+ will be arriving in South Africa on the 29th of September 2022. Since the arrival of Disney+ in South Africa in May 2022, people have been eagerly awaiting its availability on the Xbox and PlayStation lineup of consoles locally.
In a press release seen by Innovation Village, the console version of the app would be supported on the vast majority of Xbox consoles – namely the Xbox One, Xbox One S and Xbox Series X|S in the country.
“Today, Disney+, the streaming service from The Walt Disney Company, announced that the streaming app will be incorporated onto Xbox consoles from 29 September 2022 in South Africa.”
It went on to add that “Users will have access to high-quality viewing, up to four concurrent streams, unlimited downloads on up to ten devices, and the ability to set up to seven different profiles, including the ability for parents to set a PIN to access age-appropriate content.”
The streaming platform has however not released a date for the availability of the video streaming app on Playstation.
Disney+ has been available to DStv subscribers via the Explora Ultra decoder since it launched in South Africa.
Launched in November 2019 in USA, Canada and the Netherlands, Disney+ is currently available in 64 countries. In January this year, it announced it was launching in Africa, specifically South Africa, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia.
Competitors in the South African market include Showmax, Netflix, Amazon Prime amongst others.
