Disney Animation and Kugali have released the official trailer for their highly anticipated series, Iwájú, a groundbreaking animated project set in a futuristic Lagos, Nigeria. Created in collaboration with Pan-African comic book entertainment company Kugali, Iwájú promises to be a visually stunning and culturally rich coming-of-age story.

The series, consisting of six episodes, follows the journey of Tola, a young heiress from a prosperous island, and her best friend Kole, a self-taught tech expert and caring son from the mainland. Directed by Olufikayo Ziki Adeola and Halima Hudson, Iwájú unfolds against the backdrop of a futuristic Lagos, exploring the secrets and dangers hidden in the worlds of its protagonists.

According to the official synopsis, the narrative revolves around the exciting coming-of-age experiences of Tola and Kole as they navigate the unique challenges and discoveries in their contrasting environments. The creative team, including director Olufikayo Ziki Adeola, production designer Hamid Ibrahim, and cultural consultant Toluwalakin Olowofoyeku, immerses viewers in the distinctive world of Iwaju, featuring visual elements and technological advancements inspired by the spirit of Lagos.

Renowned Nigerian composer Ré Olunuga contributes to the series with a compelling musical score. Olunuga shares his deep emotional connection to Lagos and its multifaceted layers, which is reflected in the music. The score not only captures the adventurous spirit of Tola and the ingenuity of Kole but also pays homage to the rich film music lexicon of Nollywood.

Christina Chen, from Disney Animation, serves as the producer of Iwájú, with a screenplay crafted by the talented duo Adeola and Hudson. The series boasts a stellar voice cast, including Simisola Gbadamosi, Dayo Okeniyi, Femi Branch, Siji Soetan, and Weruche Opia.

Fans of Iwaju can mark their calendars for February 28 when all six episodes will be available for streaming on Disney+. The series promises to deliver a unique blend of storytelling, cultural richness, and cutting-edge animation, offering audiences a captivating and immersive viewing experience. Stay tuned for the release as Iwaju takes viewers on a remarkable journey through the vibrant and futuristic landscape of Lagos, unraveling themes of family, friendship, and ingenuity.
