Dimension Data, a subsidiary of Japanese telecommunications giant NTT, has placed a Ksh 3 billion (~$34 million) takeover bid for local internet service provider Access Kenya. Dimension Data made the offer to acquire 100% of AccessKenya shares on May 6.
AccessKenya is an Internet Service Provider located in Kenya. It was founded in 1995 by brothers David and Jonathan Somen to provide Information and Communications Technology for corporate clients within Kenya, under the name “Communications Solutions Limited”.
AccessKenya currently ranks 3rd in the local market and commands 16.5% market share.
According to Tom Reed, the MD of Internet Solutions (a subsidiary of Internet Solutions) in a recent interview with Citizen Tv News Kenya, “the important first step is to become involved in the actual ownership of the infrastructure because this is key to being able to control relaibale internet connections and communication connections for clients”.
The De-listing Extra General Meeting will take place on the 20th of August 2013.
